O presente trabalho faz uma análise do potencial construtivo do steel frame no Brasil, na produção de habitações de baixo custo. O crescimento deste mercado se deve aos investimentos realizados no País nos últimos dez anos, na implantação e desenvolvimento do parque industrial, nas formas de financiamento da tecnologia aplicada à habitação pela Caixa Econômica Federal, e em divulgação e treinamento de profissionais. Outros aspectos de grande relevância são a leveza da construção e a rapidez construtiva. A qualidade final da construção pode ser muito superior às construções convencionais em concreto e em alvenaria, por ter grande parte de seu processo construtivo industrializado. As perspectivas de crescimento deste mercado estão associadas à produção da habitação social de qualidade, entretanto para que o mercado assuma uma tendência nesta orientação, é importante a adequação do sistema as caracteristicas locais e a cultura do povo brasileiro e que se efetuem mais investimentos na indústria de componentes e painéis com consequente minimização de custos.


This paper analyzes the constructive potential of the steel frame in Brazil, in the production of habitations of low cost. The growth of this market if must to the investments carried through in the Country in last the ten years, in the implantation and development of the industrial park, in the forms of financing of the technology applied to the habitation for the Federal government saving bank, and in spreading and training of professionals. Other aspects of great relevance are the slightness of the construction and the constructive rapidity. The final quality of the construction can very be superior to the conventional constructions in concrete and masonry, for having great part of its industrialized constructive process. The perspectives of growth of this market are associates to the production of the social habitation of quality, however so that the market assumes a trend in this orientation, are important the adequacy of the system the local characteristics and the culture of the Brazilian people and that more investments in the industry of components and panels with consequent cost minimization.
